cozy fall days in the kitchen.

Our Texas weather has finally turned. The lows are in the 50s, the highs are in the 70s. Heavenly. We don’t have much fall color, but you know what else we won’t have? 100 inches of snow. Yeah, that.

I made my favorite soup last weekend. Mmmm….Sweatshirt weather, football and soup. Is there anything better? I think not! If Ava didn’t have basketball skills camp later today, I’d be making this one. Mmmm…..

One thing I do miss this time of year are my hemlock trees. Our backyard in Erie had TONS of them and they were covered in the most lovely little wee pinecones.

Fortunately I took a LOT of photographs of them. Like this one:

Since my print sets are popular, I coordinated it with a few other favorites as a rustic set for a cozy kitchen:

What are you doing this weekend? Football? Cooking – OH OH OH, I neeeeeeeeeeed (!!!) more good slow cooker (does anyone just call it a crockpot anymore? does that date me???) recipes. Our Tuesdays just turned into 3:30-4:30 gymnastics and 6-7 basketball. 30 minutes does not a dinner make, no matter what Rachael Ray says. I have a few, would love more. I’ll check Pinterest, but I know many of you out there share my love of cooking. Thanks!

  • elizabeth - [whispering] I didn’t even realize it dated me to say crockpot, because well, it’s a crockpot… heh.

Watching for good recipes to pop up, as girls have to eat dinner at about 3:45 on Mondays and Wednesdays because gymnastics is 4:30-8:30, and Fridays 3:30-6:30, and that does not make me want to cook much else those days : ) Beautiful photos!ReplyCancel

  • michele - i have a whole pinterest board dedicated to soups & slow cooker meals. henry’s swim practice is every night – starting somewhere between 5:30 and 7, and lasting two hours. plus piano and swimming for harper. and the occasional chiro visit. and homework. dinner is in the crock pot (i always say crock pot. it’s like saying you need a kleenex, when what you really want is a tissue.) more than not. i did a beef stew on friday that was heavenly. utilize that sucker! and i’m totally making your tortilla soup this week … that sounds delish.ReplyCancel

  • Heather Crawford - I use my crockpot a lot due to our schedule being like that….ReplyCancel

  • berta - Having your youngest able to drive himself home from practice is wonderful :)
I need to get more organized, because a crock pot (once a crock pot, always a crock pot) needs a little more planning ahead of time, than I seem to be able to muster :-0 But a yummy meal fresh from the crock pot is a heavenly thing.ReplyCancel
